context

A Rochester flooring business had no web presence, and the owner was getting drowned in spam calls and emails — real customer inquiries were getting lost in the noise. The contact form pointed at Formspree with no protection. The business needed a way for real customers to actually reach the owner without the spam getting there first.

approach

  • 01Architected server-side bot defense to stop the spam overwhelming the owner — invisible reCAPTCHA v3 with score-thresholded verification, plus a honeypot field that silently drops bot submissions while real users never see it.
  • 02Migrated transactional email off Formspree to a zero-dependency serverless function — branded HTML email via Resend with reply-to set to the customer's email for one-click reply, and all customer input HTML-escaped server-side to prevent markup injection.
  • 03Improved local discoverability through a full SEO overhaul — meta tags, Open Graph + Twitter cards, LocalBusiness schema.org, sitemap, and robots.txt.
  • 04Reduced page weight by converting gallery images to WebP (60% smaller) and added a branded OG share image for clean social sharing.

outcome

Live and shipping. Real customer inquiries route directly to the owner's inbox with one-click reply, low-trust submissions blocked silently, and the site ranks for local search and shares cleanly on social. Built with Cursor — I drove the architecture and decisions, the agent wrote the plumbing.
